Covid-19 Spreads At UiTM Campus After Positive Case Following BN-Linked Programme

Covid-19 been spreading throughout the UiTM Lendu campus in Alor Gajah since a student tested positive for the virus after attending an event linked to Barisan Nasional (BN) ahead of the Melaka polls.

MalaysiaNow understands that 20 more students have tested positive for the highly contagious virus since the first case was reported on Nov 10.

However a source said that the university management has given no instructions for the campus to be closed.

It said only the residential colleges of students who have been diagnosed with Covid-19 were told to close.

Staff and lecturers meanwhile have been asked to monitor students with Covid-19 symptoms for referral to the health unit.

The mother of one of the students who have been infected said her child had missed the Malaysian University English Test or MUET due to quarantine, and has had to repay the examination fee.

MalaysiaNow is attempting to reach the Melaka health director for confirmation.

On Nov 11, MalaysiaNow reported that some 40 UiTM students had attended a programme organised by an NGO related to politics from Nov 4 to 7 at a villa owned by Melaka BN chief Ab Rauf Yusoh.

Rauf, BN’s candidate for the Tanjung Bidara seat, later denied that the programme was related to the coalition or the state election presently underway in Melaka.

This followed the spread of social media posts claiming that seven UiTM students had tested positive for Covid-19 after returning from an event organised by Melaka BN.
